Biodiversity

Evergreen Steel recognizes the importance of biodiversity to the global environment and ecological balance. Guided by its core principles of sustainable operations and environmental stewardship, the Company is committed to avoiding operational activities and products associated with deforestation risks and integrating biodiversity conservation into its business strategies and decision-making processes, thereby fulfilling its responsibility for environmental sustainability.

Terrestrial Ecosystem Conservation and Sustainable Resource Use

The Company continues to promote document digitization and double-sided printing to reduce paper consumption. In 2025, the volume of paper purchased decreased by 3% compared with the previous year, demonstrating the effectiveness of its resource reduction efforts. The Company also procures paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) to ensure traceability of sources and avoid deforestation risks, thereby strengthening biodiversity conservation.

To enhance waste recovery and resource utilization, the Company actively promotes the reuse of submerged arc welding slag by converting it into controlled low-strength material (CLSM) for backfilling. The external waste reuse organization working with the Company submitted an application for case-specific reuse, which was approved by the Ministry of Economic Affairs on November 18, 2025.

In recent years, the Company has consistently maintained a waste resource recovery rate of 90% or above. It will continue to advance circular economy practices to promote sustainable resource use and reduce environmental impacts.

Environmental Education and Sustainability Awareness

In collaboration with the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation, the Company invited more than 100 students and teachers from Taoshan Elementary School and Jinping Elementary School in Hsinchu County to visit the Evergreen Maritime Museum in 2025. Through guided tours and interactive activities, students learned about the history of ship development, maritime industries, and maritime culture. These activities expanded their maritime knowledge and deepened their understanding of environmental sustainability issues.

Commitment to Biodiversity Conservation and Zero Deforestation

In response to growing global attention to biodiversity conservation and efforts to prevent deforestation, the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) have actively promoted ecosystem protection through international initiatives and legislative measures. In April 2026, the Company signed the Evergreen Steel Biodiversity and Zero Deforestation Commitment. The Company will continue to carefully assess its operating sites and activities to avoid impacts on ecologically sensitive areas, minimize environmental impacts, and fulfill its responsibility for sustainable development.
